EFCC delaying release of home-sick Fani-Kayode, aide alleges

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has been accused of delaying the release of a former Minister of Aviation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, after meeting the bail conditions set by a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos.

This was disclosed by the media aide to the former Director of Media and Publicity of the Peoples Democratic Party Presidential Campaign Organisation for the 2015 election, Mr. Jude Ndukwe, in a short statement on Monday, adding that though Fani-Kayode met the bail conditions with all the relevant document filed at the Federal High Court, Lagos, the EFCC has delayed the verification of the filed documents.

It would be recalled that Fani-Kayode who was dragged before the court over charges of money laundering bordering on the PDP campaigns funds for the 2015 presidential election, was granted bail in the sum of N250 million last Tuesday alongside a former Minister of Finance, Mrs Nenadi Usman.

The short statement read: “Kindly be notified that Chief Femi Fani-Kayode has met all the conditions for his bail and the relevant documents have been duly filed and submitted at the Federal High Court in Lagos.

“We are now waiting for the EFCC to verify the documents after which he would be released.

“Despite the fact that he has been locked up for the last 62 days, he remains confident, strong, healthy and in very high spirits. He misses his family very badly, especially his five month old son, Aragon, and he looks forward to coming home to be with his family, friends and loved ones.”
