EFCC ‘doubts’ reports, embattled Ofili-Ajumogobia is hospitalized

After series of legal trials and tussles bothering on money laundering, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has challenged a medical report tendered by embattled Justice Rita Ofili-Ajumogobia who has been in and out of court since May 15.

According to reports, the former Judge had failed to appear in court on Friday 31, May 2019 after the Court was informed that the accused is currently on admission in the Hospital.

Justice Ofili-Ajumogobia, was on May 15 docked before Justice Rilwan Aikawa, with a former EFCC prosecutor Godwin Obla SAN, on 18 count charge of money laundering and conspiracy preferred against them.

At Friday’s sitting, counsel to the accused Robert Clarke, SAN, told Justice Rilwan Aikawa of the Federal high court sitting in ikoyi, Lagos that his client was absent in court due to medical related issues and had been admitted to a police hospital for treatment.

To back his claim, a medical report was presented to the court, but prosecution counsel, Rotimi Oyedepo, told the court that the medical reports were falsified adding that Clarke’s claim were untrue.

Rotimi stated that Ajumogobia had made a similar claim when she was being investigated and charged before Justice Hakeem Oshodi of the State High Court, Ikeja during recent trials.

Counsel to the second defendant, Ferdinand Obi also prayed the court for a separate trial of his client at the last sitting and urged the court to rule on the application before the commencement of trial.

Justice Aikawa adjourned the case to June 24, 2019 for further hearing.
