The noose may have tightened further around the neck of a former Minister of State for Defence, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, as the EFCC, has reportedly obtained video footage of how he moved huge sums of cash by plane.
According to the commission, it has got video evidence of the former minister’s movements at the Lagos Airport and the flight schedule of the aircraft that moved the alleged N1.299.490 billion for the election of Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State to the Akure Airport.
The cash was allegedly received by Fayose’s associate, Abiodun Agbele.
According to the EFCC, the cash was transferred through HS125-800 5N-BMT belonging to Gyro Air Limited.
It was also alleged that the first flight was filled with N724.5 million cash, leaving no seat for the crew and the ex-minister on the flight.
Obanikoro, his ADC, Lt.Col. AO Adewale and a high ranking member of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the southwest, were said to have made the second trip with the aircraft carrying the balance of N494.990 million.
The former Senator was also alleged to have paid $25,000 for both trips.
Fresh evidence, allegedly obtained by the EFCC, also showed that Obanikoro defied the security gate at the airport in Lagos to move a bullion van to the apron of the chartered wing to off-load the cash.
It was learnt that the security men at the airport resisted the use of the security gate, but the ex-Minister ordered soldiers to break all barriers for the bullion van to get to the apron.
A source who spoke on the new revelations, said the anti-graft agency has evidence of the payment of $25,000 to Gyro Air Limited for the two flights to Akure, adding that Zenith Bank has equally confirmed how Fayose’s associate, Agbele, brought the cash into its branch in Akure to keep as sundry funds.
