Eguavoen appointed head coach of Sunshine Stars

Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) side, Sunshine Stars of Akure, have appointed former Nigeria international, Austin Eguavoen, as the club’s manager on a short term contract till the end of season.

This is coming after the club interim coach, Kayode Olujohungbe, was relieved of his duties after their 3-1 defeat to Lobi Stars last week in Makurdi.

Eguavoen has been saddled with the responsibility of making sure the Akure-based club do not get relegated from the NPFL, as that would determine his continuous stay as head coach at the club.

On Tuesday, Eguavoen was unveiled by the club, and to be assisted by his former Super Eagles teammate Ike Shorunmu.

“Today we unveiled Austin Eguavoen as our new coach on a short-term deal until the end of the season,” Sunshine Stars media officer Wahab Bankole told Complete Sports.

“The terms of the contract are that he must make sure Sunshine are not relegated and also we have a decent outing in the Federation Cup.

“We decided to appoint Eguavoen because we believe he has the experience. He has coached in the Nigerian league before and we believe he has what it takes to deliver for us.”

Sunshine Stars are currently 17th on the NPFL log with 31 points from 18 matches.
