Egyptian police arrests 13 Muslim brotherhood members

Authorities in Egypt have nabbed no less than 13 alleged members of a Muslim Brotherhood for security reasons.

According to Egypt’s Interior Ministry, the suspects were arrested for inciting protests marking the fifth anniversary of the so-called Rabaa massacre.

The Interior Ministry in a statement said six people were arrested in a Cairo suburb, including three who had been sentenced in absentia to 10 to 15 years on terror charges.

Seven other suspects were held northwest of the capital, with reports revealing that those who have been apprehended will now face trial.

“We received information that they had been planning to hold meetings … with the aim of provoking citizens to mark the fifth anniversary by staging demonstrations and sowing chaos,” the ministry statement read.

The arrest is coming a day after a raid on the outskirts of Cairo by Egyptian security forces witnessed the killing of no less than six suspected Islamic militants.

That much information was revealed by the interior ministry in a statement after the raid by security forces.
