Liverpool have conceded in injury time to lose to Villarreal 1-0 in the first leg of the Europa League semi-finals.

Thursday’s match looked set to be drawn until the second minute of added time, when Adrian Lopez scored for the hosts after a quick counterattack.

Liverpool need to win the second leg at home next week to keep alive their chances of a title this season and securing a spot in the Champions League.

In Ukraine, striker Kevin Gameiro has converted an 82nd-minute penalty for two-time defending champion Sevilla to draw with Shakhtar Donetsk 2-2.

Sevilla are well placed to reach a third straight Europa final after Spanish midfielder Vitolo had put them ahead after six minutes but they failed to build on their early lead.

Marlos quickly levelled for lively Shakhtar then Taras Stepanenko headed them into the lead.

Sevilla dominated the second half and Kevin Gameiro made it 2-2 with a calm penalty, after Vitolo had been pulled down in the box by Facundo Ferreyra.

The second legs will be played on May 5 in Sevilla and Liverpool respectively.
