Ex-Gov Elechi cites Umahi’s mis-governance as reason he dumped PDP for APC

The immediate past governor of Ebonyi State, Martin Elechi, has given mis-governance by incumbent Governor Dave Umahi as one of the reasons he dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), on which platform he governed the state for eight years.

Elechi who dumped the PDP for the All Progressives Congress also blamed “injustices and lack of internal party democracy” in his former party as warranting his exit.

Elechi gave these reasons at the occasion of his formal defection to the APC in Abakaliki on Friday.

He was addressing APC members among whom were the party national chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, Minister for Science and Technology, Dr Ogbonnaya Onu, and the acting party chairman in the state, Eze Nwachukwu among other chieftains.

He said, “The change we all clamour for is finally here with us; we are heralding the dawn of a new era in the Ebonyi body polity.

“The APC has come to salvage the decaying political values caused by the mis-governance of one man (referring to Umahi) who has lost focus of what political leadership and governance entails.

“A man who prefers to embark on unrealizable elephant projects that have no direct bearing on the lives of the people.

“We built an international market with about 8,000 lock-up shops which is still not given out to the market men and women who need these shops and our Governor embarked on construction of shopping mall.

“The Governor abandoned Oferekpe gigantic water scheme and we hear that he is now embarking on construction of tunnel while our children are out of school due to the inability of parents to pay their school fees and pensioners being owed months of arrears”.

Others who defected alongside with Elechi to the APC were his wife, Josephine, and a number of others.

All these are mere excuses that are not concrete enough for him to leave PDP, the real reason he left PDP for APC is known to him, not these nonsense he claimed.

To you the excuses may not be solid enough, but the fact is all these are enough for anyone who has good foresight to abandon PDP for another party, he chose APC because he sees what he wants in the party

For whatever reason Elechi decided to leave PDP for APC, he owes no one no explanation, it was his decision and so be it.

He was forced to join APC because of the anti corruption war, he got the information that EFCC will come for him, he had to take the easy way out by joining APC to avoid losing all he has. No one should expect the former governor to open up, many politicians have decamped to APC because of this reasons too.
