Five referees fail FIFA’s fitness test in Abuja

Five Premier League referees failed the FIFA fitness test conducted for candidates from nineteen northern states of the federation.

According to the Nigeria Referee Association NRA President Mr. Tade Azeez, the five referees would not be allowed to handle matches in the second stanza commencing next week.

He said those failed may be on health ground adding that this does not mean they will be relegated to the lower division.

“These referees knows they should be training regularly and even be fitter than players. They must be physically fit because they run more than any other person,”he said.

He disclosed that FIFA is even saying the exercise should be conducted quarterly from next season in order to keep them fit.

“Before the test we take their BP to make sure they are fit to avoid any disaster,” he explained.

The exercise is expected to continue on Thursday with referees from 17 southern states of the country.
