Gov Ortom drags Miyetti Allah to court, insists group behind Benue killings

Following incessant killings of Benue indigenes, the Governor Samuel Ortom administration has dragged the umbrella body of herdsmen in the state, Miyetti Allah Kauttal Hore and its leadership to court.

The governor revealed this to newsmen in Makurdi on Monday, explaining that the case will cover the 73 persons first killed by herdsmen in January this year.

He said, “These people had, after our ranching law was signed, addressed a press conference and said they would mobilise their kinsmen to attack Benue and true to their words they started attacking Benue.

“I have severally called for their arrest but they are still walking the streets freely but I still insist that they should be arrested.”

The governor described as a step in the right direction, the National Economic Council (NEC) ban of open grazing in Benue, Taraba, Plateau, Kaduna etc.

According to him, the NEC position vindicated Benue State position on open grazing.

NEC had last week recommended that open grazing should be banned adding that there should be ranching in some states, including Benue.
