Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom State has sacked two commissioners for receiving a senator, Godswill Akapabio at the airport in Uyo.

The two commissioners are Victor Antai of the Culture and Tourism ministry and Ibanga Akpabio, a relative of the Senator, of the Labour, Productivity and Manpower Planning ministry.

It would be recalled that Mr Akpabio stormed Uyo, the state capital on Tuesday after resigning his position as the Minority Leader of the Senate in preparation for his official defection to the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, today, Wednesday.

The two commissioners were among the crowd that welcomed Akpabio, a former governor of the state, at the Uyo International Airport.

Announcing the sack of the commissioners on Tuesday evening, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Emmanuel Ekuwem, said Mr Antai and Mr Akpabio were sacked from the State Executive Council because of their “reluctance to comply with good governance processes of government”.

The state government also asked the sacked commissioners to handover to the permanent secretaries in their respective ministries before the close of work on Wednesday.
