Herdsmen invade Ondo council secretariat, worker take flight

Workers on Monday deserted the Akure South Local Government secretariat in Ondo State after rampaging herdsmen stormed the place and sacked everybody within the premises.

The development which came after a disagreement ensued between the herders and the workers at the secretariat reportedly left one of the workers of the council macheted by the attackers.

It was learnt that for the intervention of the Ondo State Commissioner of police, Mr. Gbenga Adeyanju, and the Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Mr. Pedro Ideba, who deployed their men to the council, the situation would have snowballed into a larger crisis.

The incident is said to have warranted members of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees to request the state government to urgently act on the herdsmen matter in the state.

Meanwhile, Itigi in Cross River State, the hometown of former governor of the state, Senator Liyel Imoke, was reported to have also on Monday been in disarray following a clash between the youths of the community and herdsmen.
