Ifeanyi Uba damns attempt at removing him, vows to make YPP a formidable party

Chairman of Capital Oil and Gas Ltd, and Senator-elect , Ifeanyi Ubah, has vowed to make the Young Progressives Party (YPP) a formidable political platform in Nigeria before the next general elections in four years time.

Uba made the assertion while fielding questions from newsmen in Nnewi, despite moves by Dr. Chris Uba, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Anambra South Senatorial district in the February 23 National Assembly seeking the consent of the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC to prosecute him for electoral offences.

According to Uba who described the party as one for the youth, efforts are underway to roll out programmes that would galvanise young people across the country.

“Politically, I am the highest ranking elected member of the YPP, the onus is on me to reform YPP and make it a strong national party.

“It is my wish that within the next two or three years, YPP will be able to build a very strong grassroots network of youths, we shall create a lot of programmes that will galvanise every Nigerian youth into the YPP.

“I have done it before using TAN to sensitise the people of Nigeria, I am about the only Nigerian that has done that, to send messages that touched every politically conscious Nigerian. “I can re-enact that plan for YPP, as part of our strategic plan for advancement,” he said.

Recall that after INEC declared Ifeanyi Uba winner of the election, Chris Uba applied to the Federal High Court in Awka for an order of mandamus, compelling INEC to prosecute its Returning Officer for the election, Prof M. N. Umenweke and Ifeanyi Ubah (listed as 2nd and 3rd respondents) for allegedly committing electoral offences during the election.

Chris Uba’s court application was followed by a ruling on March 27, 2019, by Justice I.B Gafai who ordered INEC to, within 14 days, conduct investigation into the criminal allegations raised by the PDP candidate in his application.
