Sports Festival preparations hit top gear as Dalung inaugurates committee

Minister of Sports, Solomon Dalung, has asked the Nigeria Table Tennis Federation to provide proper training for Aruna Quadri ahead of the ITTF World Cup.

Quadri, who edged his continental rival Omar Assar of Egypt 4-3 on Monday in Morocco, booked his ticket to France, where the global competition will hold later in the year.

Dalung, in a media release, also congratulated the Nigeria’s number one Table Tennis player, for qualifying as Africa’s sole representative; and described the feat as a confirmation of the 28-year old’s superiority.

“This victory has once again demonstrated the superiority of Quadri in Africa,” the statement reads.

“This is good news to us in the ministry and also all sports loving Nigerians who have been following his career.”

Dalung promised that the ministry would support the Portugal-based professional to have a good showing in France, adding that the NTTF has got work to do to ensure that Quadri is given the needed preparations ahead of the World Cup.

“The federation must not wait till the 11th hour before they approach the Ministry for assistance. The earlier they reach out, the better for all parties involved,” he said.

“For an event of this magnitude, the NTTF must explore all avenues to source for funds to give Quadri the deserved training.

“The new board needs to shift its attention to the private sector who are willing to associate with this growing brand in the global circle.”

Quadri and Dina Meshref, who defeated Nigeria’s Funke Oshonaike in the Women’s Singles category, will both represent Africa when the World Cup begins.
