JOHESU bows to pressure, set to call off nationwide strike

The Joint Health Sector Unions, JOHESU has unavoidably decided to call off its nationwide strike following the plight of health-seeking public.

Reports say the decision by the union to move to call off the strike which has been on for the past 44 days was also taken to give room for an amicable resolution of its dispute with the Federal Government.

Information reaching RIPPLES NIGERIA also reveals that the move to call off the strike was agreed after the intervention of the National Industrial Court, NIC, which offered to take over the mediation process between JOHESU and the FG.

The union had earlier described an Order of Interim Injunction from the National Industrial Court (NIC), compelling it to immediately resume duties as a plot to disparage JOHESU.

Speaking at an emergency news conference on behalf of the national body of JOHESU in Abuja on Monday, Dr Godwin Okara, the Chairman Assembly of Healthcare Professionals Association (AHPA), said the matter between the union and the FG is now at the Court of Appeal.

He said the suit against JOHESU by NIC was a calculated attempt by the Federal Ministry of Health to demonise JOHESU through sustained misinformation and falsehood.

He added also that JOHESU had filed Court Processes before the Court of Appeal on May 21, challenging the locus standi of the Kingdom Human Rights Foundation International, an NGO.

But all that seems to have been settled as the union has decided to resume duties.
