KOGI: Lassa fever claims life of 7-month-old baby, doctor tests positive

A seven-month-old baby has died following a fresh outbreak of Lassa fever in Kogi State with reports also revealing that the doctor who treated the baby has also tested positive for the contagious disease.

Findings revealed that the doctor simply identified as Dr. Osebi, who is a member of staff of the Federal Medical Centre in Lokoja, the state capital contracted the disease from the baby after treating the deceased.

According to Dr. Olatunde Alabi, the Medical Director of FMC, while addressing newsmen, the sample of the doctor’s blood sent to the FMC, Irrua in Edo State for laboratory analysis, unfortunately tested positive.

Dr Alabi also added that Dr Osebi in the early hours of Saturday was taken to Irrua for further treatment while others who came in contact with the deceased particularly his parents have been quarantined.
