Man receives 10-year jail term for money counterfeiting

A Federal High Court, sitting in Kaduna, Monday, convicted a suspect named Rabiu Mohammed Umar over money counterfeiting.

It was gathered that Umar was found guilty of eight-count charge issued against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Spokesman of EFCC, Tony Orilade in a statement said Umar was found with counterfeit currency notes of N1,000 and N500 denominations before he was arrested by officers of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC)

Orilade added, “He was subsequently handed over to the EFCC for investigation and prosecution.

“He had pleaded not guilty to the charges when he was first arraigned on December 14, 2019, thus paving the way for his trial to commence.

“Prosecuting counsel, Musa Isah, called four witnesses and tendered several exhibits.”

Presiding Justice S.M. Shuaibu therefore, sentenced him to 15 months in prison on each of the counts after the prosecution proved his case beyond reasonable doubt

The sentences, according to Shuaibu, are to run concurrently.
