Middlesbrough appoint ex-West Brom boss Pulis as manager

English Championship side, Middlesbrough have appointed former Stoke City and West Brom manager Tony Pulis to succeed Garry Monk as the club’s manager.

Pulis, who was sacked by West Brom in November after a run of 10 Premier League games without a victory, will watch Boro’s Championship game against Bolton on Tuesday from the stands.

“I wanted a challenge – a real challenge – and this reminds me so much of Stoke when I went there with Peter Coates,” 59-year-old Pulis said.

“I wanted to come at this time because we have so many games in a short space of time, and I can assess everything.”

Middlesbrough have not disclosed the length of Pulis’ contract.

Middlesbrough are currently on 9th position on the league table, and Pulis’ first match in charge will be against Aston Villa on 30 December.
