Motorbike thief beaten to death by angry mob

Francis Uroh, a motorbike rider met his waterloo in the Afikpo North Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, when he was beaten to death by angry youths for allegedly stealing a motorcycle.

According to reports, an alarm was raised when the victim conveyed a passenger to Ehugbo community, a nearby town. The man who raised the alarm claimed that the motorbike Uroh rode was his claiming the bike was stolen some days before, prompting angry youths to beat the victim to death with “various objects”.

Reports also revealed that after the victim was killed, youths of Amasiri where Uroh hailed from had mobilised for reprisal but for the timely intervention of the Caretaker Committee Chairman of the Afikpo North LGA, Chief Oko Enyum, who averted what could have snowballed into a communal war.

A member representing Afikpo North/South Federal Constituency in the House Representatives, Iduma Igariwey, condemned the killing as he regretted that the youths took the law into their own hands instead of reporting the matter to the police.

“The law enforcement agents should arrest and prosecute the perpetrators; their actions are barbaric.” He said.
