Move to establish cattle colonies is unconstitutional, APDA tells Buhari

As debate on the proposed cattle colonies by the Federal Government continues to dominate national discourse, Advanced People’s Democratic Alliance (APDA) has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to shelve such an idea, as it is not in conformity with the Nigeria Constitution.

The party which said it favours ranches and grazing which are contained in the constitution explained that cattle colony merely means a place cattle meats are sold.

The national chairman of the party, Malam Mohammed Shittu, who stated this during APDA Young Leaders Forum 2018, called on the Federal Government to urgently find lasting solution to the incessant herdsmen/farmers clashes in the country.

“Our constitution does not recognise cattle colony, it recognises cattle ranches and cattle grazing reserves. President Muhammadu Buhari should know this. When you are talking about cattle colony, are you talking of where cattle meats are being sold?

“We believe that the establishment of cattle ranches or grazing reserves is an economically viable project that can generate millions of jobs and income for Nigerians and the country. But when you talk of cattle colony, we in APDA reject it. We support cattle ranches and grazing,” Shittu said.

Shittu at the event also lauded the efforts of members of the leaders’ forum, saying he was optimistic that their efforts would go a long way in helping APDA’s chances in the 2019 general elections.
