How farmers/herdsmen crisis affected governance - Lai Mohammed

Former Information and Culture Minister, Lai Mohammed, on Tuesday pleaded with the Nigerian Senate to ignore the (uncomplimentary) names social media users in Nigeria call him.

He said he has been ignoring the name until his seven-year-old grandson demanded that he explain why people often refer to him as “Liar Mohammed.”

The former minister stated this when he appeared before the Senate for screening as a ministerial nominee.

He said, “My name as it appears on my CV is correct — Lai Mohammed. Please, don’t believe what they call me on social media. They call me all sorts of names.

“I used to ignore it until my seven-year-old grandson asked me, ‘Why do they call you Liar Mohammed?’ I told him, ‘Don’t mind them. They are the bad guys.’”

Mohammed, a former spokesman of the governing All Progressives Congress (APC), had once said that people always think he is a liar because his “father named him Lai”.

Aside being among former ministers that were heavily criticised by Nigerians on social media and other platforms, Mohammed is also among those President Muhammadu Buhari nominated for his second term cabinet, that have corruption allegations hovering around them.
