NASS leadership: PDP plays joker, adopts Saraki, Dogara

Published

on

The PDP has adopted Senator Bukola Saraki for the position of Senate President, and Yakubu Dogara for position of the Speaker of the House of Representatives.

National Publicity Secretary of the party, Olisa Metuh in a statement, in Abuja on Tuesday morning at 1:50am, urged its senators and reps to act accordingly by voting for the two men.

This may lead to a major upset as members of the National Assembly are due to elect its principal officers today in Abuja.

Considering the level of support he has garnered, political analysts are of the view that Saraki may just gather enough votes to emerge as the Senate president,

The APC on the other hand had asked its members to support Senator Ahmed Lawan for the office of the Senate President, and Femi Gbajabiamila as Speaker.

It may be a replay of the last dispensation when the then opposition party had refused to vote Mrs. Mulikat Akande for the Speaker in the last House of Representatives but joined angry members of the PDP to rally support for Aminu Tambuwal, who eventually became the Speaker.

Yes I do fear Saraki winning but his arrogance and downplay on the role of the VP is not something that goes down with me. I understand why he should and wants to be the president of the Senate but such an aggressive approach to earning it, is beginning to disgust me. If he don’t win today, I might just be happy and it looks good that the party’s hierarchy is more important than any individual ambition.
