The Nigerian Police Force (NPF) has insisted that Senate President Bukola Saraki must appear before it to answer question over the April 5, robbery attacks in Offa, Kwara State.

This was as the police denied the claim that it has withdrawn its invitation for the Senate President to appear before it.

Police had on Sunday summoned Saraki to appear at its headquarters in Abuja, on a yet to be stated date, after it claimed that some suspects in the Offa Bank robbery indicted the Senate president in their confessional statements.

However, Saraki in a tweet on Monday said that the police had asked him not to appear before it again but respond to the allegations against him over the Offa robbery incident in writing.

But the Force Public Relations Officer, Jimoh Moshood, on Wednesday told newsmen that contrary to the claim by the Senate President that its invitation to him remains, and that the invitation has not been withdrawn.

Moshood again, failed to state the date police would want Saraki would appear and also was evasive of what police action would be should the Senate President failed to appear before the police same was the Inspector General of Police (IGP) refused to appear before Senate summons.

On the claim by the National Assembly that IGP Ibrahim Idris was framing perceived opponents of President Muhammadu Buhari with criminal cases and resultant vote of no confidence on the police boss, Moshood said:

“The Nigeria Police Force will not be cowed or succumb to intimidation from any quarter in carrying out a thorough and discreet investigation into the Offa banks robbery where significant successes have been recorded. The ongoing investigation will be driven to a logical conclusion.”
