Review: Patience Jonathan, the hired crowd and a crumbling house

We have been inundated with all kinds of threat since Patience Jonathan’s wahala started with the authorities. Some people have said they will blow up the country if she is arrested. Others have targeted the NNPC and this explains partly the boldness with which the madam has been carrying this her crusade.

When I saw the screaming headlines here it was reported that she had come out to claim some funds found in the various company accounts of some companies. I had wondered where this boldness was coming from. You know that here Oga was meek and mild. Madam was usually the fire spitter. She had threatened and, even like has been reported, taken the EFCC to court claiming that they want to take her hard earned money from her.

For her, there would be no secret negotiations. She was not made out of such cloth. She must be open and loud. She must take the fight to her enemies even though she remains unsure of victory. And, goaded by the thugs who masquerade as resource control fighters she challenges the system to a fight like the unknown wrestler in Chinua Achebe’s ‘Things Fall apart’, challenging the legendary Amalinze the cat.

I do not miss the contradiction. As her gentle husband continues to wine and dine with his successor, the one who trounced him soundly at the polls , his wife is in the trenches attempting to embarrass her accusers. There is no middle ground here and I can almost hear their conversation that morning as he prepared to go have breakfast with the President. Madam should have sent a message through her hubby who would not have been that courageous to deliver.

Well for the militants who have threatened to destroy all of us should she be interested, I wish her luck . Even as I ask succinctly that if we bomb public buildings anytime a prominent person is arrested or questioned then we might just find ourselves in the besieged town of Alepo .

Welcome to Alepo.
