Buhari's nominee rejects NERC chairmanship nomination

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has asked President Muhammadu Buhari to resign for what it said is his crass incompetence and tepid attitude is no longer tolerable.

The party’s Caretaker Committee spokesman, Dayo Adeyeye, made this call in a statement he issued in Abuja on Wednesday.

In its reaction, the All Progressives Congress (APC) slammed PDP, arguing that the “prevailing socio-economic hardship being faced by Nigerians is a direct consequence of the mismanagement of the economy and unprecedented looting of the country’s commonwealth perpetrated under its watch”.

APC reaction is contained in a press statement issued by its National Secretary, Mai Mala Buni, who called on the President to remain focused in his drive to restore economic growth and not allow himself distracted by detractors.

Adeyeye, making reference to the statement “recession is a word”, credited to Kemi Adeosun, Minister of Finance, argued, “Is this statement as a result of ignorance, lack of patriotism or in line with President Buhari’s comment that his ministers are noise makers?

“For the record, recession is characterised as a period of negative economic growth for two consecutive quarters, giving rise to high rate of unemployment, fall in output, increase in government borrowing, etc.”

Adeyeye then said, “Following this understanding, Nigeria’s economy is already near depression. The crass ineptitude and lukewarm attitude of this All Progressives Congress government is no longer tolerable, and therefore, we are calling on President Buhari and his team to return Nigeria to its state of booming economy before they assumed office in May, 2015, and then quit immediately to allow other capable leaders recover our ailing economy.”

According to the PDP spokesman, at least three airlines, local and international, and some banks, have suspended their services and sent their staff on indefinite leave all as a result of the economic crisis in the country.
