PDP wants Gov Amosun’s alleged confession on Ondo poll manipulation probed

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has condemned the alleged manipulation of the recent Ondo governorship election.

The party therefore called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to investigate the confessional statement allegedly made by Governor Ibikunle Amosun without delay.

Amosun was alleged to have during a meeting with the Ogun State House of Assembly and National Assembly members from the state about two weeks ago said that the APC spent N1million in each polling unit during the just concluded November 26 gubernatorial election in Ondo State

PDP therefore called on the EFCC, Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) and the media to take up the challenge of investigating and uncovering such corruptions and crimes that threaten the future of Nigeria’s democracy.

This was contained in a statement released by the spokesman of its National Caretaker Committee, Dayo Adeyeye who bemoaned the alleged release of funds by the presidency to Governor Amosun to buy votes in Ondo, adding that such act brings to ridicule the image and integrity of President Muhammadu Buhari.

The statement entitled “On Ondo 2016 Guber: Governor Amosun Reveals How Votes Were Bought In Ondo State by The APC And His Plans To Become Nigeria’s Next Senate President” read, “We have been reliably informed of the arrogance and latitude displayed by the Governor of Ogun State, Senator Ibikunle Amosun in which he revealed how his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) manipulated votes in the November 26, 2016 Ondo State Gubernatorial Election.

“A situation where democratic tenets on unhindered citizen participation, the rule of law, majority rule and performance of candidate and party will no longer determine electoral successes but by survival of the fittest through cruel, careless and brazen votes buying, intimidation and other kinds of manipulation at the polling units was very sad.

“Governor of Ogun State, Senator Ibikunle was caught on tape during a meeting with the Ogun State House of Assembly and National Assembly members from the state about two weeks ago making shocking revelations of how the APC spent N1,000,000 (One million naira only) in each polling unit during the just concluded gubernatorial election in Ondo State.

“This revelation has once again vindicated the PDP by indicting the trio of security agencies who keep failing in their mandates under this present government to maintain law and order during elections in Nigeria; the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) who abandons its responsibility by law to conduct free, fair, unbiased and credible electoral processes in the country; and the Ruling APC Government that should ensure constitutional compliance towards the conduct of credible elections especially, as a government that is constantly whining on issue of ‘corruption’ as if it cares.”

PDP likes chasing shadows. They are on a long thing if they want Ibikunle to confess his alleged actions because it won’t change anything.

As in everyone know Ondo state election was full of irregularities and rigging but who God has ordained, no one can change is the res judicata of the matter.

PDP should allow APC enjoy their time too. They have used theirs. Time changes and so regime changes. APC has 8 years to shine after which another party can come on board too.

It is always good for politicians to shut their mouths up, if Amish didn’t say anything concerning manipulation, PDP won’t use it against him.

This is what one can expect from elections in Nigeria. The aftermath is always as ridiculous as the main event. We like to probe everything!
