Post-congress crises: Katsina APC faction threatens defection

Published

on

There were strong indications on Sunday that the crises that characterised congresses of the All Progressives Congress in some states on Saturday could lead to a mass defection by some aggrieved members from the party.

The PUNCH gathered that the APC National Working Committee would this week start reviewing results of the congresses with a view to resolving crises that could lead to the defection of its members.

Violence marred the exercise in some states, with Lagos, Kwara, Delta, Rivers, Ondo, Enugu, Kogi, Bayelsa, Oyo and Ebonyi recording parallel congresses.

A leader of the party, who confided in The PUNCH, said the present NWC and its successor would have to find a way of reconciling opposing groups in the affected states to prevent defection.
