Power sector to receive boost as FEC approves $5.792bn for Mambilla plant

The Federal Executive Council (FEC) Wednesday approved the construction of Mambilla Hydro-Electric Power plant at the sum of 5.792 billion dollars.

This was disclosed following the FEC meeting which was held at the council chamber in Abuja.

The Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, stated that the construction of the four damns required would take an estimated 72 months.

Fashola did not however disclose when the project would begin.

The project which at completion is expected to deliver 3,050 megawatts, will be jointly funded by Nigeria and China.

Nigeria is to provide 15 percent counterpart funding in the joint venture agreement with China.
