Presidency hails Buhari as he scores about 3m votes in Kano APC primary alone

The presidency has hailed President Muhammadu Buhari for his capacity to mobilise voters as evidenced by the huge turnout of members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the direct presidential primaries held across the country.

In the Kano State primary, the president scored a total of 2,931,235 votes in 44 local government areas.

The primaries were conducted on Friday in the 36 states of the federation and Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory.

The Kano returning officer of the primary election, who is the state governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, said he was impressed by the large turnout of voters in his Ganduje ward in Dawakin Tofa Local Government area of the state.

The governor then restated his promise to give over 5 million votes to President Buhari in the 2019 general election.

“With these figures of over five thousand votes from my ward, Ganduje ward of Dawakin Tofa local government, which only comes from APC card carrying members, it is indicative to the fact that our pledge of over 5 million votes to our dear President in 2019 election is tenable and realisable,” he said.

Ganduje also stated that Buhari would be voted by other political party stalwarts in the 2019 presidential election.

“People should understand that when the general election comes around, apart from our APC members that would vote for the continuation of President Buhari regime, many more others who belong to other parties would join the queue,” Ganduje was quoted as saying in a statement by his chief press secretary, Abba Anwar.

Reacting in a statement Saturday by Garba Shehu, presidential spokesman, the presidency said, “The outcome of the All Progressives Congress, APC, American-style direct presidential primaries on Friday 28th of September 2018, held across the states with President Muhammadu Buhari as the sole aspirant is a major boost to his success at next year’s general election.

“In a more direct way, the huge turnout of millions of registered party members at all voting centres proves that the President has an incomparable ability to reach out to people and mobilise votes.

“It is significant that President Buhari has won a major victory, fair and square through direct nationwide primary, a system that seeks to break the mould.

“The President has shown that you don’t have to be a party owner or go through a difficult inner party consensus to emerge as candidate.

“Beyond this being a victory for the party and the President, it is a message to everyone that development and good governance are more important to our people than divide and rule politics.

“The message in the air from this unique achievement by the APC is that all true democratic parties in the country need to start raising their act by copying the leadership of the President.

“We thank everyone for their role in bringing about this victory”.
