Prettiest goat named in Lithuanian annual beauty pageant
A 16-month-old female goat called Demyte, or “Little Spot” won the top prize in an annual beauty pageant staged in the Lithuanian village of Ramygala when it emerged the prettiest goat.
The pageant which also included a marching band, dancers in fancy costumes and a “king” and “queen” presiding over ceremonies, witnessed the presence of close to 500 people who braved the heat to attend the beauty parade in honour of the goat.
The competition saw about six goats (a traditional symbol of the northern Lithuanian village) decorated with flowers paraded on the red carpet before a panel of jury consisting of a local member of parliament, the head of the local school and a cucumber farmer.
After the parade which saw some contestants stubbornly refused to walk and were instead carried by their owners, Demyte, owned by, 74-year-old retired veterinarian Ferdinandas Petkevicius, won the competition after six years of trying as a goat owner.
“The only thing we didn’t do to prepare the goat for the pageant is we didn’t polish its nails – because we thought of it too late,” said Petkevicius, holding the leash of the winning white goat with black spots, which was decorated with two roses on its head.
