Thugs invade Ondo House of Assembly, attack lawmakers, staff, journalists

Leaders within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State have accused the state governor, Rotimi Akeredolu of supporting the opposition in the state.

The party’s leaders challenged Akeredolu to disproof rumours of his romance with the opposition Action Alliance (AA) by openly leading the campaign of candidates of the party across the state.

The governor has severally been accused of sponsoring candidates in the opposition Action Alliance in the Northern and southern senatorial districts of the state.

But the leaders of the party, led by a former deputy governor of the state, Alhaji Ali Olanusi, at a meeting in Akure on Saturday, said the governor should prove his innocence by openly campaigning for the candidates of the party, including Senator Ajayi Borroffice and Senator Yele Omogunwa in the North and south senatorial districts respectively.

The elders said, rather than supporting the party’s candidates, Akeredolu and the state party’s chairman, Ade Adetimehin, were funding the candidates of Action Alliance in the Ondo North and Ondo South senatorial districts. Dr Tunji Abayomi and Dr. Olatunji Felder.

Olanusi said, “We state with all sense of responsibility, that since the Ade Adetimehin executive is not adding value to the fortunes of Ondo APC, its dissolution cannot have any adverse effect on the performance of the APC in the state.’’

Others at the meeting included a former party Chairman of the APC in the state, Mr Isaac Kekemeke, Chief Makinde Oguntona and a former commissioner, Chief Bode Sunmonu.

Party faithfuls within the APC have also alleged the governor of funding the campaign of House of Representatives candidates of the APC in the north at the expense of the party’s candidates, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo in Akoko North East / West Constituency and Ade Adeogun in Akoko South East/West Constituency.

The governor was only spotted recently leading the campaign of the central senatorial candidate, Tayo Alasoadura at a campaign in Ondo town.

Reacting to the allegations, the state Commissioner of Information, Yemi Olowolabi denied claims that his principal was working for opposition Action Alliance.

Olowolabi, however did not tell when the governor would begin campaign for the party’s candidates across the state as challenged.
