Residents to gov: Stop Benin Disco’s blackout, crazy bills

Published

Residents of Asaba, the Delta State capital and its environs, have sent a Save- Our-Soul (SOS) appeal to Governor Ifeanyi Okowa over the imposition of crazy bills on them by the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC).

They groaned over the failure of electricity supply by the company to residential homes and businesses, making nightlife activities to be of low quality in Asaba, the state capital.

They said the blackout in over 50 streets in Ogbeowele New Layout, Okpanam, including Dr. R. N. Okonkwo Street, Marble Hill Road, Porters’ Chapel Avenue, Airport View Road and the crazy bills had built up aggression in residents of the area.

A member of Landlords and Tenants Association in the area, Tony Agbasiowen, who lamented the failure of the company to supply meters to residents and replace wooden poles with concrete ones as contained the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed with the Federal Government, wondered why decisive action had not been taken on nonperforming distribution companies.
