Nigeria’s two most promising wrestlers lost in the quarterfinals of their respective bouts to add to the woeful performance of Team Nigeria on Thursday.
Odunayo Adekuoroye competing in the freestyle 53kg surprisingly lost 5-0 to Sofia Mattson of Sweden at the Carioca Arena 2 of the Olympic Stadium in Rio.
It was one sided encounter in which the Nigerian failed to pick any point against the European who had an easy bout in the crucial last eight fight.
As if that was not enough, Blessing Oborodudu in the quarterfinal of the freestyle 63kg, also lost to her counterpart  from Mongola.
Oborodudu put up a good fight but lost 3-1 to Sorozonbold Batteseg of Mongola to further put the ambition of the country to grab a medal at the Rio 2016 event in jeopardy.
Earlier on Wednesday, Aminat Adeniyi, Mercy Genesis and Hanah Reuben lost in their respective categories of the wrestling event of the games.
