Sanusi launches Sharia-based ‘Jaiz Takaful Insurance’ company

In efforts to boost Nigeria’s economy, Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, on Monday launched an Islamic insurance company, ‘Jaiz Takaful Insurance’, the first of its kind in Nigeria.

The emir who expressed joy with the development during the launch in Kano State said the company will aid in boosting Nigeria’s economy and will operate a policy that will be guided by Sharia.

He said that the insurance company was not only meant for the Muslims but also for those outside the faith. He assured that all members will be equally and fairly treated.

“The Insurance Scheme will assist the small scale business people to replace their lost property, especially whenever a disaster which we are not praying for has occurred,” the emir said.

“The scheme would assist the registered members to replace their lost property, either due to fire outbreak or accident, through their contributions.”

The emir at the event urged the state government to register all the state’s property, especially vehicles and houses with the new Islamic insurance company.
