Senate confirms Buhari's nominees, Eko, Augie as S'Court Justices
The Senate on Tuesday, confirmed Ejemba Eko (North Central)  from Benue state and Justice  Amina A. Augie (North West)  from Kebbi as Justices of the Supreme Court.
The confirmation of the two followed the consideration of a report of the committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters on the screening of Justices Eko and Augie.
Chairman of the Committee, Senator David Umaru who presented the report, prayed his colleagues to confirm the two nominees as Justice of the Supreme Court.
Before the voting to confirm the nominees, Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, who presided, announced that e-voting would be used for the confirmation of the nominees.
Ekweremadu added that the Senate rule provided for three types of voting, namely, voice vote, secret vote and electronic voting.
He noted that because of the sensitive nature of the confirmation of the Supreme Court nominees, e-voting would be used to ensure accuracy.
Ekweremadu also explained the procedure for the use of the e-voting method.
After registration for the confirmation of Justice Eko, 39 Senators registered.
At the end of voting, 38 Senators voted in favour of the confirmation of the nominee while one voted nay.
For Augie, 40 Senators registered to vote.
After voting, 38 Senators voted in favour, one voted against while one abstained.
Ekweremadu congratulated the confirmed nominees. He noted that especially at the moment, there were many challenges.
The Senate, he said, expected the new Supreme Court Justices designates to be just and fairs to all manner of persons in the discharge of their duties.
