Senate introduces new bill to cripple EFCC's control of NFIU

The Senate has said that from Tuesday, it will commence a clause by clause debate on the reviewed 1999 Constitution.

The decision followed the submission of the reviewed 1999 Constitution on Thursday by the Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu-led Senate constitution amendment committee.

The reviewed 1999 Constitution contains amendments which the two chambers of the National Assembly have adopted during a joint session of the committees of both the Senate and the House of Representatives.

Each senator was meant to have a copy of the document after it was submitted as was consistent with their usual practice.

While asking the Clerk of the Senate, Nelson Ayewor, to ensure copies of the report got to the senators, Senate President Bukola Saraki urged his colleagues to read and study the report so as to be able make meaningful contributions next week when the debate was scheduled to commence.

Saraki said that the circulation of the report would allow senators use the weekend to get themselves prepared by studying it ahead of the coming clause by clause debate.

This development is coming amidst widespread outcry over the alleged omission of the Not Too Young To Run Bill seeking to reduce age criteria for political offices, from the final constitution review report.
