Torres returns for Atletico's clash against Bayer

Atletico Madrid’s striker Fernando Torres is set to return for his side’s UEFA Champions League last-16 second leg tie with Bayer Leverkusen on Wednesday.

He is returning two weeks after he was discharged from hospital with a head injury he sustained when he crashed heavily to the turf, with his head hitting the ground hard in an 85th-minute aerial challenge with Alex Bergantinos during their 1-1 draw against Deportivo in La Liga on March 2.

Torres returned to full training on Monday and Atletico boss Diego Simeone confirmed he is available.

The Spanish giants secured four away goals at the BayArena to take charge of their tie against German side, Bayer Leverkusen over a fortnight ago.

Torres as one of the scorers in the game that ended 4-2, which puts Atletico in a strong position to reach the last eight for a fourth successive year.

And with Atletico having lost only one of 20 Champions League games at home under Simeone, Bayer’s new Boss Tayfun Korkut faces a tough challenge to overturn the first-leg deficit.
