Trouble looms in APGA as party spokesman backs call for resignation of National Chairman Oye

The crisis rocking the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) is about to escalate as the Publicity Secretary of the party in Abia State, Ebere Uzokwa, has backed calls for the resignation of the National Chairman of the party, Ozonkpu Victor Oye.

Uzokwa berated Oye over his poor handling of the affairs of the party in the country and called on him to throw in the towel for lacking the capacities to preside over the activities of the party.

The spokesman who conveyed the state party leadership’s position known in an interview with reporters in Aba on Thursday, pointed out that the party’s national chairman’s alleged failure to run the affairs of the party properly, has led to an exodus of APGA leaders and stakeholders from the party.

His words, “The call for his removal is legitimate. And it is necessitated by events of 2018 and 2019. If you can cast your mind back, you will see and agree with me that before the just-concluded elections, APGA was positioned to take over Abia and Imo States.

“Oye’s activities created the exit door which led to the mass exodus from the party.

“There is no gainsaying that such massive exit from the party, in one way other the other affected what I will call, a poor outing in the last election. You can also remember or you must have also read that many people who won their primaries, their names were replaced by those that didn’t contest the primaries at all.

“That is to say, Chief Victor Oye and cohorts literally put APGA for sale. They sold the party tickets to the highest bidders. And that is not good for a party that wants to win elections. Some people are calling for his resignation. So, I think, such call is well informed and legitimate. I also join them to call Oye to throw in the towel, allow those you have capacities, those who have enormous goodwill to come on board and rebuild APGA for future engagement”.
