Troubled Imo APC postpones LG congresses, Oyo too

The All Progressives Congress (APC) Local Government (LG) congresses slated for today (Saturday) will not take place in the troubled state of Imo.

The state governor, Rochas Okorocha and some chieftains of the APC, have been in fierce battle over the control of the party.

APC national chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, who confirmed the development to newsmen on Friday, said that a new date for the congress would be announced soon.

Also, the Oyo State APC has announced that the LG congresses in the state will now hold on Sunday instead of Saturday.

Imo APC it was gathered, had to postpone the congress, to allow the party’s appeal committee on the ward congress conducted in the state submit its report to the leadership of the APC.

The decision followed a meeting between Okorocha, Odigie-Oyegun; and other members of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC).

Trouble in Imo APC appears to have festered since Governor Okorocha was apparently outsmarted by some chieftains of the party in Imo State led by his own Deputy Governor Prince Eze Madumere, during last Saturday’s ward congresses in the state.

While Okorocha had cried to Buhari and has continued to cry to APC chieftains, insisting that no ward congresses held in the state last Saturday, the Madumere group of the party had maintained that ward congresses held in the state.

To worsen the matter, the state secretariat was on Friday evening set ablaze by unknown persons in what clearly is part of a fall out of the ward congress last Saturday.

Meanwhile, Oyo State APC has also announced that the LG congresses in the state will now hold on Sunday instead of Saturday.

It said the reason for the shit of date for the congress became necessary due to the clash of the congress date with the LG election being conducted by the Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC).

The congress chairman, Alhaji Musa Halilu-Ahmed, made this known to newsmen on Friday, adding that should the congress be allowed to hold as already scheduled, that it will experience hitches as restriction of movement during the LG election would affect officials, candidates and delegates involved in the conduct of the congress.
