Trump accuses Obama of tapping his phone during elections

US President Donald Trump has taken a dig at Barack Obama accusing the ex-US leader of ‘wire-tapping’ his office- Trump Tower phones, prior to the last staged general elections.

“Terrible! Just found out that Obama had my ‘wires tapped’ in Trump Tower just before the victory. Nothing found. This is McCarthyism!” Trump tweeted, as part of a six-tweet screed.

Trump’s accusations aimed at former US President is seen as deflecting attention after he came under siege for alleged ties between his campaign and Russia which saw the resignation of Attorney General Jeff Sessions.

In his comments after announcing his decision, Sessions said his decision to recuse himself from a federal investigation was because his conscience couldn’t take it.

Recall last month that national security adviser Michael Flynn resigned his post after misleading officials about communications with Russia before the new administration came into power.

Sources say the main reason Flynn resigned is because it is illegal for private citizens to conduct US diplomacy which he did before he was appointed national security adviser by Trump.
