The Trump Protests – Isn’t it a bit late?

Published

By Joseph Edgar… As I watch the protests going round the world, I begin to ask myself where this global stupidity emerged from. Women and men from major capitals of the world have come out to protest in one voice the inauguration and by extension the Presidency of Donald J Trump as the 45th President of the the United States of America. As I look through the crowd, all I can see is the mass stupification of the world.

The question here is, do the organizers think that these protests can bring down the institutions that keep the American society sane? What are the objectives of the protests? Is it to lead to the cancellation or the reversal of the processes that led to this situation? I think not and I suspect that even the organizers and, indeed, the people who, despite common sense, continue to throng out also share in my views.

You see, the institutions of the United States that guard their democracy are very strong. Yes, stronger than the personalities that play within their embrace no matter how powerful and definitely stronger than the wishful thinking of these marchers. The regret today of the founding fathers of the American democratic ethos may likely be this, the strength of the institutions, the constitution which continues to guard the wishes of the people no matter how unpopular.

The marchers had the time to make their mark, during the elections but did not. The wasteful effort they are placing on the marches and protests could have been galvanized during the elections to ensure a massive rout of this renegade. But no, that did not happen and they watched Trump take electoral votes in key states and swing himself to the Presidency even though he lost in the popular votes. Once this happened the institutions and the constitution immediately takes over and protects the choice of the people even if it is the devil.

I suspect the marchers know that but would still go ahead with the publicity stunt just because they can do that. I do not believe these marches can bring down the government of Donald Trump, I also do not believe that these marches can even put him under pressure to the extent that he would renege on all his retrogressive policy decisions, what I think could be done and done immediately is to work very closely with the representatives of the people on Capitol Hill to ensure proper checks and balances to curb the excesses of this person as he begins what would most likely be the most exciting and dangerous presidency this generation would see.

You see, the constitution in protecting Trump also has embedded in it strong checks that would ensure that he does not stray too much away from the ideals of the founding fathers. This is not a banana republic where personalities are stronger than the institutions. Where one ‘mad man’ can just wake up and annul sections of the constitution or increase his term like what just happened in The Gambia . This is a properly constituted system that has withstood the vagaries of politics for over two hundred years and has continued to show that it has the sagacity to withstand even the madness of this blond lothario.

So I do not understand the fickleness of the marchers and the apprehension of the people who did not do anything until the milk spilled. The constitution and the institutions that have continued to guard the values of the founding fathers will keep Donald J Trump in check, so people fear no more. Stop the marches and go ahead and face more constructive issues like never allowing this to ever happen again.
