Trump slaps new travel restrictions on Chad, Venezuela, North Korea

President Donald Trump of the United States has slapped new travel restrictions on three countries namely: Chad, Venezuela and North Korea, thereby expanding the list of countries covered by his original travel bans.

However, restrictions on citizens from Sudan were lifted but Iran, Libya, Syria, Yemen and Somalia were left on the list of affected countries in a new proclamation issued by the president on Sunday.

“We cannot afford to continue the failed policies of the past, which present an unacceptable danger to our country,” Trump said in statement. “My highest obligation is to ensure the safety and security of the American people, and in issuing this new travel order, I am fulfilling that sacred obligation.”

The order is coming weeks after a ban on refugees entering the US from around the world was upheld by the U.S. Supreme Court giving Trump partial victory and allowing him to broadly implement the ban.

The new ruling now bars as much as 24,000 additional refugees from entering the United States than would otherwise have been eligible, a decision made possible after justices granted a request from the Trump administration to block a federal appeals court decision on the matter.

However, the rule was been condemned by Naureen Shah, Amnesty International USA’s senior director of campaigns, who said the refugee ban is inherently cruel.
