U-23 AFCON: Olympic Eagles seek semi-final ticket in S’Africa duel

The battle for glory at the U-23 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) continues today (Friday) as the final group B matches involving Nigeria, South Africa, Zambia and Cote d’Ivoire will go down.

The Olympic Eagles of Nigeria will take on their South African counterparts while Zambia will battle the Ivoiriens as only two teams from the group will advance to the semifinal.

Hosts Egypt have already reached the last four, alongside Ghana, from group A.

Nigeria, led by coach Imama Amapakabo, began their campaign on a losing note when they fell to a 1-0 defeat to Cote d’Ivoire, but bounced back pick a 3-1 win against Zambia in their second outing.

South Africa are top of the standings on four points while Nigeria are second with a superior goal difference to Cote d’IVoire, who also have three points.

Zambia are bottom of the group with a point, but the group is still very wide open, as the outcomes of today’s games could send any team through.

Th games will kick off by 7p.m Nigeria time.
