U-23 Eagles bounce back, beat Honduras 3-1

Nigeria’s U-23 Eagles bounced back from two consecutive losses by defeating Honduras 3-1 on Monday at the Suwon International Tournament in South Korea.

Rising from the 1-0 loss to hosts Korea and 6-2 bashing in the hands of Denmark, Samson Siasia’s team started the game on a shaky note as they conceded an early goal in the 17 minutes through Alberth Elis as the Honduras led the first half 1-0.

Upon the resumption of the second half, Nigeria’s captain Azubuike Okechukwu equalised in the 61 minutes with a superbly taken goal.

Godwin Saviour made it 2-1 for Nigeria when he converted a penalty in the 69th minute after Ndifreke Effiong was fouled inside the box.

Defender Saturday then scored a third goal for Nigeria, when he fired home from almost the center of the pitch past goalkeeper Fonseca.

Nigeria Starting XI: Yusuf, Ndifreke, Saturday, Obanor, Amuzie, Usman, Azubuike, Saviour, Popoola, Abdulrahman, Awoniyi

Honduras Starting XI : Fonseca, Barralaga, Pereira, Vargas, Flores, García, D Flores, Acosta, K López, Elis, Lozano.
