US vows to use force against North Korea if need be

The United States of America has once again stated its preparedness to defend itself and its allies in case of a possible attack by defiant North Korea led by Kim Jong Un, stressing that it’ll use force if need be.

The US reiterated its stance on the matter during an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council after Pyongyang’s successful launch of an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM).

US Ambassador Nikki Haley on Wednesday said that “the world has become a more dangerous place” with North Korea’s threat but said it prefers to use its clout in international trade to address the growing issue while also noting that China has a key role in promoting peace.

Haley said that the North’s launch of an ICBM “is a clear and sharp military escalation” and the US is prepared to use its “considerable military forces” to defend itself and its allies “if we must”.

Continuing, she said the Trump administration prefers “not to go in that direction” but to use its “great capabilities in the area of trade” to address “those who threaten us and … those who supply the threats.”

The comments by the US Ambassador is coming a day after Russia and China both described Pyongyang’s continued missile tests as ‘unacceptable’ urging the United Nations Security Council to implement a simultaneous freeze on the Norths nuclear and military exercises.

The positions were announced in a joint document issued after a meeting between leaders Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping in the Russian capital of Moscow on Tuesday, in which they also condemned Pyongyang’s latest missile test as “unacceptable” and urged against “any statements or actions that could lead to an increase in tensions”.
