14-year-old electrocuted to death, landlord escapes with injuries
Residents of Fagbeyiro Street in the Alakuko axis of Lagos State were thrown into mourning after a high-tension wire unfortunately fell on Deborah Faleke, a 14-year-old.
Reports say the wires belonging to Ikeja Electricity Distributing company fell on the victim who just finished secondary school immediately power supply was restored in the area.
A landlord in the area who is yet to be identified also got injured and was taken to a nearby hospital when the wires surging with high-tension voltage came down.
Eyewitnesses say Deborah’s elder sister and other concerned neighbours took her to a hospital but she was rejected and when they were able to take her to another hospital for treatment, she unfortunately gave up the ghost.
According to Pastor Ademola Faleke, Deborah’s father, the case has been reported at the Alakuko Police Division and he is sad at his daughters death because she is the last child.
On Friday, I went out of Lagos State for a ministration. So, the girl went to stay with her eldest sister on Fagbeyiro Street. That was not her first time.
“I was at Iyana-Ipaja on Saturday on my way back when I was called on the telephone and told about the incident. There was no rainfall. Deborah was not sent on any errand. She was just passing through the gate when the wire fell on her. The marks on her body showed that the wire fell on her head.
“She was rushed to a hospital. The workers there said they did not have adequate equipment. So she was rushed to a second private hospital on Adegbola Street, where she later died. The doctor issued a death certificate to us.
“She just finished secondary school; she was also my interpreter. She was very active in church. I want the electricity distribution company to at least show some concern. My daughter, who is my joy, has been taken away by a careless electrical connection.”
According to DSP Damasus Ozoani, the Lagos State Deputy Police Public Relations Officer investigations into the case have started.
“The police received the report of the electrocution. The high-tension wire cut off on the street and fell on the girl. Investigation is ongoing.”
