23-yr-old woman lands in court for stabbing 33-yr-old husband to death

The Ebute-Meta Magistrate’s Court, Lagos State, played host to the case of a 23-year-old woman Folashade ldoko who allegedly stabbed her husband to death after she suspected that he may be engaging in extra-marital affairs.

Brought before the court on one count of murder, Folashade according to court papers committed the crime at Aiyetoro, in the Ijanikin area of the state, when she stabbed her husband Lawrence Idoko, to death on August 20, 2017, after an argument.

While addressing the court, Inspector Akpan Nseyo, the investigating police officer in charge of the case, said a kitchen knife which the suspect stabbed her husband with was found at the scene of the incident.

“I also saw a towel soaked with blood on the floor. There were bloodstains from the inner room to the living room down to the entrance door,’’ Nyeso added.

Sergeant W. Hafsat, the prosecutor, said the offence by Folashade was contrary to and punishable under Section 223 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.

The prosecutor also reeled out the defendants charge which read thus; “That you, Folashade Idoko, on August 20, 2017, at about 3am, on Ganiyu Akanni Close, Aiyetoro, Ijanikin, Lagos, in the Lagos State Magisterial District, did unlawfully kill your husband, one Lawrence Idoko, by stabbing him on his right thigh with a kitchen knife.”

In her confessional statement, Folashade said it was not her intention to stab her husband to death adding that they were both struggling for the knife when “it mistakenly fell and injured my husband.’’

The defendant’s plea was however not taken by the court presided over by the magistrate, Mrs. K.A. Ayeri, who adjourned the matter till September 28, 2017 and ordered that Folashade be remanded in police custody.
