Akwa Utd win Nigeria League Super 4

Akwa United of Uyo Friday night emerged champions of the 2016 Nigeria Premier League Super Four tournament after playing a goalless draw with league champions Enyimba.

The Federation Cup champions ended the mini tourney with nine points ahead of Enyimba which finished with eight points.

Earlier in the day, Nasarawa United, who were in contention to claim the Super 4, suffered a 0-1 defeat to Warri Wolves after winger Kelvin Itoya, scored the only goal through a penalty kick in the 39th minutes.

The Seasiders finished the group on seven points while Nasarawa finished with eight points.

The tournament is aimed at preparing Nigeria’s representatives for the CAF Champions League and the Confederation Cup.

The Nigeria Professional Football League clubs — Akwa United, Enyimba and Nasarawa United — will now focus on their CAF club competition matches billed for next weekend.
