ANAMBRA 2018: INEC deploys 6,000 card reader machines

Ahead of the November 18 Anambra State governorship elections, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that it has deployed over 6,000 card reader machines to ensure smooth conduct of the poll.

This was stated by INEC Administrative Secretary in Anambra, Charles Mbanaja, during an interview with newsmen in Awka.

He explained that among the 6000 machines that 5,000 of them had been tested and discovered to be in good working condition.

Mbanaja further promised stakeholders in the election of INEC preparedness to ensure a level playing ground to all candidates in the election and asked politicians to play by the rules.

He added that the commission had already engaged in a public enlightenment campaign to sensitise people on the electoral processes, more importantly on voting system in order to minimize re-occurring issues of invalid votes and other related electoral defects.

INEC, he said, had also organised a voters’ education forum attended by stakeholders in the electoral process all in the move to make sure the conduct of the polls will be smooth.

The commission then urged the people of the state to cooperate with INEC in order to ensure a free, fair and acceptable election.
