APC headache increases as Omo-Agege, Emerhor clinch one senatorial ticket

Issues in the All Progressives Congress (APC) where two persons emerge as its candidates for one position added in number on Thursday as incumbent Senator Ovie Omo-Agege and leader of the party in Delta State, Olorogun Otega Emerhor, both emerged winners of Delta Central senatorial ticket.

The duo emerged through parallel elections conducted by the APC to elect candidates for the senatorial district in the 2019 elections.

The primary through which Omo-Agege emerged was held at Udu in Udu Local Government Area, while Emerhor also emerged winner of the same position in another primary held at Ughelli in Delta State.

According to the Returning Officer, Gen. Lawrence Onoja (rtd), for the election that produced Omo-Agege, the senator garnered a total of 2,360 out of the 2,414 votes cast, to win Chief O’tega Emerhor who scored zero votes, while 54 votes were recorded as invalid.

On the other hand, Emerhor at the primary held in Ughelli, which had Mr. Solomon Igbiaye, as the Returning Officer polled 2,492 votes against the four votes counted for Senator Omo-Agege.

Reports of parallel polls have continued to flood APC primaries both for its governorship and National Assembly exercises.

How the party will resolve these issues to meet up with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) October 7 deadline for all primaries and issues emanating from them to be resolved remains a headache for some of its members.

There are also concerns of possible implosion in the party over what the actions of these candidates who will not be accepted by the party will be at the end of the process.
