Arsenal Stun Bayern as Mourihno blasts referee

Arsenal shocked soccer pundits by securing a 2-0 victory over Bayern Munich in Group F thereby ending a run of two consecutive defeats in the Champions League on Tuesday.

Substitute Olivier Giroud scored in the 77th minute at the Emirates Stadium, bundling the ball into the net after Bayern goalkeeper Manuel Neuer rushed off his line and failed to claim a free kick from Santi Cazorla.

The ball appeared to come off Giroud’s arm last, after first hitting his head as he dived to make contact.

Mesut Ozil scored the second in added time, converting a cross from Hector Bellerin which Neuer pushed out after it had crossed the line.

Neuer made an astounding first half save from a Theo Walcott header six yards out, diving to claw the ball off the line.

Meanwhile, Jose Mourinho accused the referee of being “weak and naive” as he endured a night of frustration in the Olympic Stadium.

The Blues had a shout for a penalty waved away when Serhiy Ribalka brought down Cesc Fabregas in the first half as they played out a goalless draw against Dynamo Kiev.

And Mourinho said: “The referee was weak and naive with the penalty.

“I cannot understand what the referee behind the goal does because he doesn’t make a clear decision too.”

Mourinho is appealing an FA fine and ban for accusing Premier League referees of being “afraid” to give his side penalties.

But Arsene Wenger escaped a similar sanction for describing officials as “weak and naive”, infuriating Mourinho.

Eden Hazard and Willian both hit the woodwork and Mourinho added: “We hit the post twice, had a good solid defensive performance against a dangerous team. To lose this game would have been bad for us.”

But at least it gave them some much needed confidence as they built on Saturday’s win over Aston Villa with a much better Champions League display.

They were excellent throughout as they defended well, were solid in midfield and yet just could not find the finishing touch.

It leaves Group G on a knife edge but they will face the return with Dynamo in a fortnight’s time knowing victory will put them in a strong position.
